Position Purpose
To assist the Human Resources team in its day to day operations. This is a term position through December 31, 2020 - an extension may be possible pending funding. ( up to 12 weeks)
This position is made available through the Canada Student Work Placement Program (SWPP)
Tasks include
Organize, compile and update employee records (hard and soft copies) Process documentation relating to employees (recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, etc.)
Update internal databases
May be required to schedule meetings including labour management grievance meetings and as required to provide confidential labour relations support in meetings
Assist in onboarding of newly hired employees
Providing confidential administrative and labour relations support to the HR team

Opportunity to gain HR work experience and gain an understanding of HRIS systems, applicant tracking systems, and what it means to be a part of an HR team working with unionized staff

Job Requirements:

The successful candidate must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary HR or Business Program and looking to get experience working HR. Must be going to school while working in this position.
Ideally you will have completed the first year of the program
Understanding of a unionized environment or working with a collective agreement is an asset.
Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee status has been conferred, and legally entitled to work in Canada
Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check
You must have Wifi connectivity and be able to work both in the office and remotely from home within a confidential space. A laptop will be provided to you on your first day and your onboarding, orientation and training may all be done virtually. You are a self-starter, self-manageable and driven to solve / finish with energy
To deliver the right solution in response to an inquiry, you have a natural curiosity and ask questions. You are organized, check-list minded, flexible, adapting well to multiple priorities
Strict adherence to maintaining confidentiality
Professionalism while collaborating with varying employee levels
Ability to self-manage, work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a small team
Ability to remain calm under pressure with high volume workload
You are detail-oriented, a team player and like to actively join in discussions.
