Job Summary

The HR Manager will provide senior level advice, guidance, coaching and direction on human resources management issues to a portfolio of Department, Institutes, Schools, Centres, Programs Cultural Venues and Academic Service Units within the Faculty of Arts. This includes: talent acquisition and succession planning; employee relations issues, retention and engagement strategies, performance management and staff development, learning and development, and policy development. Consults and collaborates with clients on the development and implementation of human resources management initiatives that support their strategic goals. Ensures approach, advice, and guidance respects individual unit identities and values while seeking and promoting alignment with FoA and UBC Strategic Plans and policies. The incumbent will promote and influence a culture of respect, diversity and inclusion in the workplace through embedding these values in their approach, solutions, advice and guidance.

Organizational Status

Reports to the Director, Human Resources, Faculty of Arts and is a member of the HR Advisory Services team in the Department of HR. Manages a team of HR professionals in the Arts Service Centre. Provides direction to Human Resources Associates, and Administrative Assistants in Advisory Services. Partners with FoA Departments, Schools, Institutes, Cultural Venues, Student and Administrative Services and programs. Works collaboratively and develops partnerships with colleagues in the Dean's Office and members of the Arts Service Centre Finance Team. Works with various departments within UBC, including but not limited to: Employee Relations, Workplace Health Services Case Coordinators, Pensions, Payroll, and Benefits.

Work Performed

Provides expertise, guidance , strategy and support to the Department Administrators, Academic Heads/Directors and managers within portfolios on all human resources matters related to staff and student employees including: performance development and management, change management, conflict resolution, bullying and harassment, recruitment and retention, onboarding and orientation, job evaluation and classification, salary administration, succession planning, attendance management, organizational restructuring, equity, diversity and inclusion as well as human resources related university policies and procedures.
