Job Description

Job Summary
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Legal Assistant to join our busy family law firm.
Working under the general direction of a lawyer, provides legal administrative assistance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
All assistant functions relating to document production, including typing from written notes;
Maintain established filing systems including BFs;
Assist with file preparation and management;
Type and revise contracts and agreements;
Organize and assemble document books;
Become familiar with files, clients and key contacts in order to prioritize incoming calls;
Prepare, serve and file documents at various Courts;
Proof-read (documents, letters, memos, etc.);
Enter timesheets and co-ordinate billing cycle;
Provide general administrative support to lawyer;
Complete other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Ability to remain productive within a time-sensitive and fast-paced environment;
Excellent organizational and time management abilities;
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a demanding work environment;
Capable of interpreting instructions and preparing required documentation;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required for effective communication;
Must be accurate and detail-oriented;
Proficient at proof-reading;
Ability to exercise strong initiative, judgment and confidentiality;
Dedicated to providing quality service to clients;
PC Skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.);
Strong word processing and typing proficiency.
Education and Experience Preferred
Grade 12 or equivalent
Post secondary diploma in office administration or equivalent training and experience
Minimum one year experience in office administration
