Responsibilities Reporting to the Supervisor of Legal Services, the Legal Assistant performs paralegal work relating to security documentation and inherent statutory and procedural requirements by checking, maintaining, and revising AFSC’s loan security and all related documents in accordance with AFSC’s policies and procedures and accepted legal practice. The Legal Assistant will:
Determines whether the security requested on a loan is adequately describedEnsures AFSC's security is properly registered or discharged and documents have been executed as per AFSC's standard policies and proceduresCorresponds with internal and external solicitors and branch staff regarding legal interpretations, corrections, missing documents and other requirementsPrepares security documents and sends out document packages to external solicitors and branch staffObtain necessary searches (i.e. Land Titles Registry, Personal Property Registry, Corporate Registry and Bank of Canada)Registers and discharges securityCompletes reviews of conditions and security on all disbursements prior to submitting for funding.Prepares and sends Demand Letters
Technical:
Legal background with a good understanding of accepted legal practices in Alberta.Understanding and ability to interpret applicable Acts, Regulations, and legal documents used by other creditors and their agents;Proficient in the use of computers and applications relevant to the position.

Ability to communicate complex legal concepts with ease and clarity;Ability to deliver results with high attention to detail;Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage significant workloads within time constraints;Demonstrate behaviors that align with organization values of trust, integrity, accountability, respect and excellence Qualifications Preferred:
2 year relevant College Diploma and 1 year of proven related experience or 3 years’ proven related experience
Minimum:
Completion of a College Diploma and one year of legal experience or three year’s equivalent experience.
For those not meeting the minimum education, additional related work experience may be considered as equivalencies.
Pro-active in continued professional and personal skill development is an ongoing expectation. Salary $3,988 to $5,718 per month **Final candidates will be required to undergo a comprehensive background check, including security screening, and verification of credentials.**
